FEMINIST ART HISTORY 

Age: Multi-gen

Instructor: Lorelei Amato

​

This online class is a broad view of art history, through the lens of women artists. Students will learn about the life, technique, inspiration, and struggles of each artist. Then we’ll use that to inspire art of our own.  Expect to make personal mandalas, illuminated manuscript manifestos, story “quilts”, and more!

GIFTS OF IMPERFECTION add-on class

Move what you learn from your head to your heart to your hands! This is an opportunity to take one medium and expand on it while also spending more time with your community.

Art Journaling the Ignatian Examen

Age: Adult

Instructor: St. Mark's staff and Lorelei Amato

1403 ArtSpace is excited to co-create a Lenten spiritual growth workshop based on the Ignatien Examen. The staff at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle will walk us through the Ignatian Examen, a practice of prayerful reflection to detect God’s presence and discern his direction for us. In the first session we'll learn the medieval illuminated manuscript technique and create journal pages to contain our reflections. then we'll come back together to share our journeys and creative experience.

ART JOURNALING YOUR SPIRITUAL PATH​

For womxn/non-binary people who want to explore how art making can deepen and ground their spiritual path. We'll explore the Christian practice of Ignatian Examen, Buddhist mandala making, Islamic calligraphy, etc.

Art journaling can help us maintain a creative practice, organize our thoughts and emotions, and get to know ourselves better. 

This all-ages online class is a great way for families and friends to connect. We'll be inspired by classic techniques like watercolor and collage, as well as pop-up, found poetry and more!

DOLL MAKING TECHNIQUES​

Age: 13 - Adult

Instructor: Lorelei Amato

Starting with the historic and cultural significance of dolls, we'll make folk dolls like corn husk, rag and paper dolls, then try modern techniques like wire armature and air-dry clay.

Art for the Soul - Painted Rocks

Age: all ages

Join Ashlee for a nourishing evening exploring the art of painted rocks. You'll be guided through using pattern design, simple illustration, lettering and connecting with the images and symbols of your inner landscape. Guaranteed to spark joy, use your rocks in your home, garden, offer as loving gifts, or brighten a public space!

EXPLORATION OF ANCIENT GREEK THEATER

Age: 2nd - 5th grade

Instructor: Lorelei Amato and Ali Whitmore

 

​We are SOOO excited to be bringing the Greek Theater class back! In this week-long camp, students will explore the history, structure and relevance of ancient Greek theater, then use what we learned to create a play of our own. We will make masks, create costumes, develop characters, build a stage set, and collaborate on a script in the style of the ancients. Class culminates in a performance and celebration of what we created together. This year has a very special spin, SANCA coach Alaya Whitmore will be joining us to incorporate circus arts into our performance!

We'll spend 4 months on an art-filled journey to learn how to practice "the courage to be imperfect, to set boundaries, and allow ourselves to be vulnerable" to live a more fulfilling life.

ART JOURNALING FOR DBT

Age: Adult

This group is for people who are in or have done Dialectical Behavioral Therapy using Marsha Linehan's workbook.

Classes include art therapy inspired projects that explore DBT principles more deeply, creating bullet journal pages to support regular skills practice, and creative work to encourage mindfulness.

MAKE ART LIKE A KID AGAIN​

Picasso famously said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."  This class uses my favorite kid art projects to bring us back to that free, creative flow, without judgements or goals.

ART FOR THE SOUL

Age: Adult (vaccinated)

Instructor: Megan Menkveld, Kelli Kirk, Ashlee Staub

This series is a great way to get your creativity flowing again! We'll make SoulCollage with Megan, embroider with Kelli, rock painting and mini garden crafts with Ashlee. The intention is free, creative flow in community, without judgements or goals. Attendance is limited to 8 vaccinated adults, see our Covid policy for more info.

SCULPTING/3D ART MAKING ONLINE

Age: 8 - 14

Instructor: Lorelei Amato

This class is going 3D! We'll look at a different famous sculptor each week and create art inspired by what we've learned. Expect Miro recycled material mobiles, Yayoi Kusama paper flowers, Salvador Dali junk drawer assemblage and more. If you've taken the Art Around the World series and are looking for something new, this could be a great fit.

Paint and Sip Tuesdays Online or In-Person

Age: adult

Instructor: Laura Cameron

​

No experience necessary! Come and relax, and paint along with local artist Laura Cameron to create your own version of the week's featured painting, like "Starry Night at the Magic Castle", "Twilight Fox", and "Black Cat".  Wear comfortable clothes to paint in, and please comply with current COVID guidelines..

Creating Mythical Creatures  -Online

Age: 8 - 14

Instructor: Lorelei Amato

Taking inspiration from global ancient mythology, we will fire up our imaginations and create magical creatures of our own! This 8 class series will integrate a wide variety of techniques: we'll create origin stories, make maps, build sculptures, draw comics and more. 

 

Students interested in fantasy creatures, writing, visual arts, or playing in their imagination will appreciate this class. Writing skills are a plus, but not necessary. Expect no more than one hour of working time per week outside of class.
